This stunning 1989 Porsche 911 Turbo–one of just 244 Turbo Cabriolets produced in that model year– The year 1989 was the grand finale of the first-generation 930 Turbos that were built from 1976-1989. In that time, several mechanical and design changes would be incorporated into the Turbo making the 1989 models the most developed and improved version of this series. The most substantive changes through the years included a larger 3.3-liter engine, the addition of intercooler unit, the adoption of 917 brakes, wider wheels and tires and a tray style spoiler.

But the 1989 911 Turbo was special because it was the very first year to receive the long awaited 5-speed transmission. Prior to 1989, Porsche had used a 4-speed gearbox specifically designed for the Turbo model. However, many Porsche owners longed for a 5-speed transmission with carefully selected ratios that would both maintain pressurized “on-boost” throughout gearshift changes as well as provide an overdrive fifth gear for high speed cruising. Their wish was granted with the G50 5-speed gearbox introduced in 1989. This is a tastefully optioned car that is unique in many respects.
